We started getting calls in the Spring of 2018 asking about the possibility of de-watering hemp straight from the field.
The Drying process, post-harvest is one of the most inefficient processes within the industry. Not only is it very expensive, but the constant handling and moving of the material around results in an unacceptable loss of CBD oils. Typical reports are of going from 15% CBD in live plants in the field to as low as worste case scenarios of 3% by the time this biomass reaches the entry point for processing to the highly valuable CBD distillate commodity.
As such we ran a number of tests and proof-of-concepts on the 2018 harvest. We found that on 82% moisture hemp that we can remove 40% water/juice by weight of the hemp that enters the screw press. With 70% moisture hemp we found 30%. These numbers along resulted in cutting drying time by 1/2.
With regards to CBD oils in the extracted juice; We have three data sets of .29%, .60% and 1.1% of total volume. Considering the benefit of dewatering, these numbers were considered insignificant and negligible.
As far as volume we have the ability to provide screw presses capable of volumes ranging from 1000 lbs per hour up to 100hp screw presses running 40,000 lbs per hour of fresh cut hemp. Truly and industrial scale solution for some of the biggest farms in existence.
We already have multiple 2000 acre plus farms across the U.S. and Canada approaching us about the 2019 harvest. By the end of this year we will know for certain if this is the future of harvesting/drying. So far all indications are that it is.
